December School Counseling Lessons

Picture
In the month of December, students in grades K-5 identified the various caregivers in their lives, both at home and at school, and learned what job each caretaker has to ensure that they are safe and healthy. Student learned that if they are ever in an unsafe or dangerous situation, they are to say, "No, Go-someplace safe, even if it is school the next day, and Tell a trusted adult what happened. Students learned about the Maryland State Law that explains the legal age children are allowed to stay home (or in a car) alone so they can stay safe. Students learned that 8 years old is the legal age when they can stay home by themselves, and that in order to watch/babysit a child under the age of 8, they would need to be at least 13 years old. Check out the images below to learn what students learned during the month of December.

In December, Kindergartners learned the role of a caregiver and the caregiver rules. They also learned steps to take if a caregiver breaks any of the caregiver rules.
Safe Side Super Chick shared many "Hot Tips" with 1st graders on how to stay safe from strangers.
Parents be sure to check out the "Hot Tips" 1st graders learned in the month of December.
During the month of December, 2nd graders learned the "No, Go, and Tell" rule if a caregiver breaks the caregiver rules.
2nd grade parents, review the parent letter so you and your child can work to identify 3 safe adults.
3rd graders learned the S.C.O.O.P. rules so they know what to do in an unsafe situation.
Want to know what S.C.O.O.P. means? Ask your 3rd grader to share what it means and how those rules can keep them safe.
4th graders learned worked to identify a list of safe adults, both at home and at school, that they can turn to if they were in an unsafe or unhealthy situation.
5th graders viewed clips of real-life children in staged situations to see how they would respond when dealing with strangers. (Video clips were from Dateline: My Kid Would Never Do That)
